Lord’s Day: August 8, 2021

Romans 4:25
He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.

Dear Neighbor,

Who is He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification? He is the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God!

The apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

We should, therefore, consider ourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. (Rom. 6:11) We who believe in Jesus Christ died with Him, and were buried with Him in Baptism, and raised to walk in newness of life. (Rom. 6:4)

The Christian is not saved through good works, but by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ we are saved; however, we are saved for good works, which God prepared before our salvation. (Eph. 2:8-10)

Is the Christian to continue in sin? (Rom. 1:1) This is indeed a silly question considering that the Christian is dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Jesus said to the man whom He healed from 38 years of infirmity that had made him lame, and to the woman accused of adultery whom he did not condemn: “Sin no more!” (Jn. 5:14 & 8:11) Therefore, present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and as instruments of righteousness to God. We who believe in Jesus are not to be mastered by sin, for we are not under law but under grace. (Rom. 12-14)
