Jesus the Good Wine

The other day a woman said that Jesus was the final Word of God in this end times and then quoted Hebrews 1:1-3. So let us take a look at that now, I’m going to add in verse 4 for a complete thought.

“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.” (Hebrews 1:1-4 NASB)

This got me to think about these things, the LORD God spoke directly to Adam but after Adam sinned he was thrown out of the garden, out of the presence of God and from that point on God spoke to Adam (man) through prophets. The Bible is the word of God; the divinely inspired word of God. “All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (1 Timothy 3:16-17 NASB) The scriptures were given to us by God through Moses and the Prophets; but in these end times the Word Himself who was prophesied of in the Law and the Prophets came to us as the final Word of God.

I have been memorizing the gospel of John so I meditate on it often, especially when I am alone in my automobile traveling to and from work. I was reciting John chapter 2, and mediating on it after thinking about the things written above. That God had spoken to us through the prophets and in these last days He has spoken through His Son. In John chapter 2 Jesus came to a wedding feast and they ran out of wine, so He by the request of His mother turned water into wine. Jesus told the servants to take it to the master of the feast; now pay close attention to what happens and what the master of the feast said.

“When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And said to him, ‘Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guest have well drunk, then the inferior, you have kept the good wine until now!” (John 2:9-10 NKJV)

So I then realized that is exactly what God did. God spoke through inferior sinful men (the prophets) in many portions and in many ways. Listen to what the word of God says about Elijah. “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.” (James 5:17 NASB) The prophets were men just like us, sinful inferior men, with a nature just like ours (the inferior wine). Jesus the final Word of God is not like us, He is like God; He is God, the God Man. “And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.” (Hebrews 1:3 NASB) Jesus is (the Good Wine).

God is not like a man; “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guest have well drunk then the inferior, you have kept the good wine until now.” (John 2:10 NKJV) God has kept the Good Wine until now.

(In case you were wondering why I used both the NASB & NKJV translations Because the NASB is the translation I am currently reading from but John chapter 2 is in NKJV because that is the translation I have memorized and thus the text I was meditating on.)
