Born Again (John 3:1-6)

(There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water, and the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” ~John 3:1-6). Nicodemus was a Pharisee, a ruler of the Jews, which tells us that he was a respected man held in high esteem in the land of Judea among the Jewish people, and probably a member of the council, the ruling religious authority in Jerusalem. The Pharisees, as a group of pe...

Destroy This Temple (John 2:18-25)

(So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?” But He was speaking of the temple of His body. Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said. Now when He was in Jerusalem, at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man. ~John 2:18-25). Today I am going to talk about the last 8 verses of John chapter 2 completing my memorization of John chapter 2; God has shown me much through this chapter. I have had struggles th...

The Clearing of the Temple (John 2:11-17)

(This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days. Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise. Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”) ~John 2:11-17. Last week I wrote about Jesus changing water into wine and showed you how this miracle was a miracle of creation showing that this man Jesus of Nazareth was in fact the creator Himsel...

Jesus the Creator God (John 2:6-10)

Image
(Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” ~John 2:6-10) This is the first recorded miracle of Jesus Christ in the four gospel accounts, this miracle is special and I will show you why. There were six stone waterpots that happened to be there, which would have been in any Jewish household, because these pots were used for cleani...

Leave Your Request in God’s Hands (John 2:1-5)

(On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” ~John 2:1-5) Today we begin chapter 2 of “The Gospel According to John” and we begin with the setting of the first recorded miracle of Jesus Christ, at the wedding in Cana. Now it is recorded here that it was on the third day, I have to assume that the writer John was referring to the third day of the week, the first day being after the Sabbath (the Sabbath is Saturday) the first day of the week is Sunday so the third day would be Tuesday, but he could also be referring to the third day since Nathanael came to the Lord. The scripture tells us that “there was a wedding in Cana of...

God Is Love. What an Amazing God We Serve.

I would like to share with you the story of what God did last weekend. It was incredible and I still stand in awe over it. To begin I have to go back to last Saturday morning 8/13/2011. My custom is to wake up one hour before I would otherwise need, to get wherever I have to be that morning, I will spend 30 minutes reading the bible and then spend time in prayer before preparing for the day, which many of you know, as I have shared before to God’s glory He has had me in His word every day since He saved me on May 4th 2003. This particular Saturday morning I was off work and had no other obligations so I was able to sleep in a little and arose a little before 7:00 am that morning. I did as is my custom, grabbed my bible, a cup of coffee, asked God to prepare my heart to receive His word and began to read. A week has passed since and I can’t tell you what I read during my normal reading time, I believe it was one of the epistles of Paul. I finished the particular book I was on an...

The Ladder (John 1:47-51)

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!” Nathanael said to Him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Phillip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.” Today we conclude the first chapter of, “The Gospel According to John.” I for one have enjoyed it tremendously, the Lord has taught me much over these past several weeks, memorizing scripture and meditating on them all week, it has been wonderful, and I praise God for it. Now we conclude this chapter today in discussing the la...
